After heavy snowfall, weather improves in Uttarakhand (updating with new pics)

After two days of heavy snowfall and rains, the weather, barring higher reaches, improved considerably on Saturday in Uttarakhand.

However, the met centre said the intermittent snowfall and rains are likely to continue in altitude above 3300 meters in some parts of the state in the next 12 hours.

During past 24 hours, Maximum temperatures remained markedly below normal in plains as well as in hills of Uttarakhand. Dehradun recorded 27.5 mm of rainfall during the past 24 hours, one of the highest in March in recent past. The hill resort of Mussoorie recorded 50.6 mm of rainfall during the period.

Several areas including Badrinath, Kedarnath, Gangotri and Yamunotri in Uttarakhand on Friday experienced snowfall, the heaviest in March in recent years plummeting temperatures steeply in the hill state. In the plains, light to heavy rains occurred in most of the areas of the state. Dehradun recorded a maximum of 17.4 degree C on Friday, a steep fall of 10 degrees since Thursday which was also -11 degrees below normal making the nights colder. The minimum temperature also fell considerably to 10.7 degree C on Saturday morning.

Pantnagar, Mukteshwar and New Tehri also reported heavy fall in temperatures.

The met centre said the weather in the capital will remain mainly clear to partly cloudy sky on Saturday. Maximum and minimum temperatures are likely to be around 24°C in Dehradun.
