Amid the rising temperatures and raging forest fires, the IMD on Thursday indicated that Uttarakhand is likely to experience rains in the next two days.
A 45-year-old forest watcher was killed after he feel from a cliff while battling forest fires in the Badrinath Forest Division of Chamoli district. The incident occurred late Wednesday evening when fire watcher Rajendra Singh was trying to extinguish a fire in a pine forest. While fighting the fire, Singh suddenly slipped from a cliff and plunged into a 100-feet-deep gorge and died.
SDRF personnel also extinguished fires at Basugaon area in Uttarkashi district which was spreading towards residential areas.
As the temperatures shot up in the hills, the forest fires have started raging at number of places in districts like Chamoli, Bageshwar and Almora.
The Met department indicated thunderstorm accompanied with lightning / gusty winds (speed 40-50 Kmph) likely to occur at isolated places in Uttarkashi, Dehradun, Tehri, Rudraprayag, Chamoli, Bageshwar and Pithoragarh districts of Uttarakhand from Friday.
Isolated to scattered light to moderate rainfall with thunderstorm, lightning & gusty winds (speed reaching 40-50 kmph)likely over Jammu-Kashmir during 23rd; Himachal Pradesh on 22nd; Uttarakhand on 22nd & 23rd May, IMD said.
Meanwhile, Dehradun recorded maximum 40.2 degree C on Thursday.
