Dhami says he has no knowledge about any move to prepone polls

Uttarakhand Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami on Thursday said he has no information regarding speculation that the next Assembly elections in the state could be held ahead of schedule.

Responding to questions from reporters, Dhami said he was unaware of any proposal or discussion on preponing the Assembly polls. “I have no knowledge about any such move,” he said, putting to rest speculation that has been doing the rounds in political circles.

The Chief Minister, however, asserted that his government’s focus remains firmly on development and public welfare rather than election-related discussions. He said the state government is committed to implementing welfare schemes, strengthening infrastructure and ensuring the overall development of Uttarakhand.

Political speculation over the timing of the next Assembly elections has intensified in recent weeks, with opposition parties and some political observers suggesting that the ruling party could consider advancing the polls. However, no official announcement has been made by the Election Commission of India or any other competent authority regarding a change in the election schedule.

The current tenure of the Uttarakhand Assembly is due to end in early 2027, and elections are expected to be held in accordance with the constitutional timeline unless any decision is taken by the appropriate authorities.

With Dhami categorically stating that he has no knowledge of any move to prepone the elections, the political buzz over an early electoral contest is likely to continue for some more time.
