Nagrasu Gurdwara impasse: CM Dhami presides high level meeting

Uttarakhand Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami on Tuesday sought to defuse tension arising from the recent Nagrasu Gurdwara impasse, assuring that the state government is committed to maintaining communal harmony and taking impartial action against anyone found guilty in connection with the incident.

The CM’s statement came as the impasse over the Nagrasu Gurdwara was continuing. Holding swords and other weapons, a group of Nihangs, who are camping on the rooftop of the Gurdwara since Saturday, are seeking the release of their four associates who were recently arrested from Karanprayag area following a brawl with locals.

Chairing a high-level meeting at the Secretariat to review arrangements for the ongoing Char Dham and Hemkund Sahib pilgrimages, Dhami appealed to devotees and tourists visiting the state not to pay heed to rumours or misleading information being circulated on social media.

Referring to the incidents reported from Nagrasu and Karnaprayag, the Chief Minister said the government, administration and police were examining all aspects of the matter and taking action based on facts. He said action had already been initiated against those found responsible and warned that strict measures would continue against anyone found guilty during the course of the investigation.

The Chief Minister also highlighted the significance of Uttarakhand as a major centre of Sikh pilgrimage, noting that Hemkund Sahib, Reetha Sahib and Nanakmatta Sahib attract thousands of devotees every year. Respect for all faiths and the spirit of ‘Atithi Devo Bhava’ form an integral part of the state’s culture, he said.

Dhami expressed concern over attempts by some individuals to spread provocative and misleading information through social media. He appealed to people not to create divisions within society and warned that legal action would be taken against those disseminating false or inflammatory content.

The Chief Minister said that dialogue, mutual respect and social harmony were essential for resolving disputes and maintaining the state’s tradition of peaceful coexistence.

Chief Secretary Anand Bardhan and DGP Deepam Seth, DG Intelligence, security and prison Abhinav Kumar were present in the meeting.
