The Special Task Force (STF) of Uttarakhand Police has arrested a man allegedly involved in promoting radical ideology and anti-national activities through social media platforms.

The accused, identified as Mohd. Salauddin, was apprehended from Gadarpur in Udham Singh Nagar district following an intelligence-led operation. According to the STF, preliminary investigations revealed that he was in contact with handlers based in Malaysia and Pakistan, raising concerns about possible cross-border links, police sources said on Thursday.

Police said the accused had allegedly been using social media to influence and radicalise young people by spreading extremist content. The investigation is focused on uncovering the extent of his network, online activities and links with foreign-based operatives.

Acting on information provided by the accused during interrogation, STF teams recovered a cache of arms and explosive-related materials. The seized items include one English-made pistol, five live cartridges, four detonators, and two AK-47 rifle cartridges.

Senior police officials said the recovery points to a potentially serious threat and underlines the need for continued vigilance against attempts to radicalise youth through digital platforms. The STF is examining electronic devices and communication records to identify other individuals who may have been associated with the accused.

A case has been registered, and further investigation is underway. Police officials said additional arrests could follow as the probe progresses and more details emerge regarding the accused’s alleged links with foreign handlers and extremist networks.
