Defending champion Jannik Sinner on Friday produced a masterclass to overpower seven-time champion Novak Djokovic in straight sets and storm into his second consecutive Wimbledon final, where he will face French Open champion Alexander Zverev in a mouth-watering title clash.
World No. 1 Sinner barely put a foot wrong as he defeated the Serbian great 6-4, 6-4, 6-4 in a high-quality semi-final on Centre Court. The Italian dominated with a thunderous serve, precise baseline hitting and relentless aggression, giving the 39-year-old Djokovic little opportunity to impose his trademark all-court game.
Sinner, who lifted his maiden Wimbledon crown last year, extended his impressive run at the All England Club and moved within one victory of successfully defending his title. The 24-year-old fired 16 aces and dictated play from the outset, breaking Djokovic’s serve in each set while maintaining remarkable consistency on his own delivery.
For Djokovic, the defeat marked the end of another memorable Wimbledon campaign. The Serbian legend had battled through the longest quarter-final in the tournament’s history earlier in the week, but appeared physically below his best against the fresher and younger Sinner. Despite flashes of brilliance, the 24-time Grand Slam champion struggled to match the pace and intensity of the top seed.
Earlier in the day, Alexander Zverev booked his maiden Wimbledon final with a convincing 7-6(5), 6-2, 6-4 victory over British wildcard Arthur Fery, whose dream run captivated home fans throughout the fortnight.
Fery fought bravely in a closely contested opening set, but Zverev’s superior serving, powerful groundstrokes and experience proved decisive. The German, who captured the French Open title earlier this year, tightened his grip on the contest after the first-set tiebreak and never looked back.
Although Fery’s remarkable campaign ended in the semi-finals, the British youngster emerged as one of the biggest revelations of Wimbledon 2026 after becoming only the second men’s wildcard to reach the last four.
Sunday’s final promises a fascinating battle between two of the sport’s finest ball-strikers. Sinner will be chasing back-to-back Wimbledon crowns and another Grand Slam title, while Zverev, riding high on confidence after his Roland Garros triumph, will be aiming to add the coveted Wimbledon trophy to his growing collection.
With both players in scintillating form, the championship match is expected to provide a fitting finale to an enthralling Wimbledon fortnight.
