Uttarakhand Police on Saturday said they have busted a cheating racket that deceived candidates by misleading them and luring them to pass the exam.
Police arrested Hakam Singh and his associate in this regard, top police officials said.
The accused had demanded ₹12 to 15 lakh from candidates by promising them passage in the Uttarakhand Subordinate Services Selection Commission exam.
The plan was to pocket the money upon automatic selection of candidates in the exam and to deceive those who failed in the exam by promising to adjust the money in the next exam.
The investigation into the entire matter has revealed no breach of the integrity and confidentiality of the exam.
On September 21, 2025, the Uttarakhand Subordinate Services Selection Commission, Dehradun, is conducting a written competitive examination for graduate-level positions in various departments.
In view of the possibility of anti-social elements being active during the examination and luring candidates with promises of passing the exam, the police and STF were keeping a close watch on suspicious individuals. Two days ago, the joint police team received confidential information that a gang of individuals was forming to deceive candidates for the said examination, luring them with promises of passing the exam and demanding large sums of money.
Based on this information, the joint team of Dehradun Police and STF secretly gathered information through investigation and surveillance. During the investigation, it was discovered that a candidate named Pankaj Gaur was in contact with Hakam Singh. This individual was contacting candidates and demanding 12 to 15 lakh rupees in exchange for helping them pass the exam.
On the basis of confidential investigation, the police team collected information about the accused and two accused namely Hakam Singh resident of Mori, District Uttarkashi, age 42 years and Pankaj Gaur resident of village Kandari Block Naugaon , Uttarkashi, age 32 years were taken into custody from Patel Nagar area.
