Czech rising star Linda Noskova captured her maiden Wimbledon title and first Grand Slam crown after defeating compatriot Karolina Muchova 6-2, 5-7, 6-3 in a gripping women’s singles final at the All England Club on Saturday.
The 21-year-old produced a composed performance to emerge victorious after two hours and 27 minutes, becoming the youngest women’s Wimbledon champion since Petra Kvitova lifted the trophy in 2011.
Playing in her first Grand Slam final, ninth seed Noskova made a dream start, breaking Muchova’s serve twice to race through the opening set in just 36 minutes. Her powerful groundstrokes and aggressive returning kept the experienced Muchova under constant pressure as she appeared to be cruising towards the title.
The second set, however, turned into a tense battle. Muchova, who was also seeking her maiden Grand Slam title, raised her level dramatically and fought back from the brink. Noskova came within touching distance of victory but was unable to convert several opportunities to close out the match as Muchova claimed the set 7-5 to force a decider.
Undeterred by the setback, Noskova quickly regained her composure in the third set. After surviving early pressure on her serve, she rediscovered the attacking tennis that had carried her through the tournament. A decisive break midway through the set proved enough as she sealed the championship with another confident service game.
The triumph capped a remarkable fortnight for the Czech, who defeated Ella Seidel, Camila Osorio, Sorana Cirstea, Madison Keys, Elise Mertens and Marta Kostyuk en route to the final before overcoming Muchova in the first all-Czech Wimbledon women’s final in decades.
The victory marks the biggest achievement of Noskova’s young career and signals the arrival of a new force in women’s tennis. With her first Grand Slam title secured and confidence at an all-time high, the Czech star is expected to challenge consistently for major honours in the seasons ahead.
At the end of the Final, Princess of Wales Kate Middleton presented the Wimbledon trophy to Noskova. After getting the trophy, Noskova got emotional remembering her mother who passed away in 2024 due to cancer. Noskova dedicated the Grand Slam to her mother and broke down remembering her mother.
