The southwest monsoon is likely to set in over Kerala on May 26 with a model error of ± 4 days, the IMD said on Saturday.
Southwest monsoon has advanced into some parts of southeast Arabian Sea, southwest and southeast Bay of Bengal, many parts of Andaman Sea, entire Nicobar Islands and some parts of Andaman Islands including Sri Vijaya Puram on Saturday (May 16).
Meanwhile, heat wave to severe heat wave conditions likely to prevail over some parts of the plains of northwest India and central India during many days of the week.
Isolated heavy to very heavy rainfall also likely over northeast India during the week and over Andaman & Nicobar Islands, Sub-Himalayan West Bengal & Sikkim, Tamil Nadu, Puducherry & Karaikal, Kerala & Mahe and South Interior Karnataka during next 3-4 days.
Fairly widespread light to moderate rainfall with thunderstorm, lightning & gusty winds (speed reaching 40-50 kmph) likely over Jammu-Kashmir on 16th, 19th & 20th May.
Very light to light rain / thunderstorm / snowfall (at places with altitude 4500m and above) likely to occur at isolated places in Dehradun, Tehri, Uttarkashi, Rudraprayag, Chamoli, Bageshwar and Pithoragarh districts of Uttarakhand on Sunday.
Maximum temperatures were in the range of 40-45°C at many parts of Central India & adjoining north Peninsular India, Gujrat State, Rajasthan & adjoining Haryana; 32-40°C over
rest parts of country except parts of Jammu-Kashmir, Himachal Pradesh, Northeast India, South Kerala and Tamil Nadu, Saurashtra & Kutch, Interior Maharashtra, West Rajasthan. Yesterday, the highest maximum temperature of 45.6°C was reported at Amaravati in Maharashtra.
