After playing the brahmin card, former Uttarakhand Chief Minister Harish Rawat on Wednesday got back to bowl googly in his oration. In so many words, Rawat tried to send a message that he would not bow out of politics.

Rawat, who started a new yatra from Rishikesh on Tuesday, reached Jasoli in Rudraprayag district and later Gairsain in Chamoli district of Uttarakhand where he talked on a host of issues that included increasing income of people in Uttarakhand especially in the hills.

During his speech at the Jasoli fair and later Gairsain area, Rawat said he would not grow old till he hands over mandua (finger millet) biscuits to US President Donald Trump. “I have decided till I hand over mandua biscuits to US President Donald Trump, I will not grow old. I will not leave the ground,” said Rawat in his inimitable style at Jasoli. Political observers were quick to point out that Rawat was trying to send a clear message that he is not going to hang his boots. In the past also, Rawat has made umpteen remarks where he kept the people guessing about his next move.

He also said by eating Fanu-bhat pahari meals, a person’s age is increased by a day or two.

In his new post on FB, Rawat also took potshots at the government and said “I started my journey yesterday from Rishikesh, I am currently in Karnaprayag. I saw the entire NH here…It seems as if you are constantly moving with jerks.”

He said “the second pain that we are forced to endure. The constant falling of stones from the hills causes damage to vehicles and even loss of life, posing a constant threat to travelers. There’s a way to deal with this. In mountainous areas and other places, NH officials treat the road with nets, or if there’s a lot of debris, they cordon off the area to prevent it from damaging the road. But this section of the NH has been left to God’s mercy, and people told me that the road to Jakholi was being filled with soil after hearing the news of your arrival.”

He said “It’s good that the government and the department honored me so much. But the plight of the roads is unseen”.
Rawat was recently in news when he said brahmin leaders should be given more responsibilities in Congress.
