Schools closed in Doon as heatwave torments many places in India

Many places in Uttarakhand and rest of India on Sunday reeled under the heat spell as the mercury touched 39.2 degree C in Dehradun, making it the hottest day in the current summer season.

The district administration in Dehradun declared a holiday for all schools on Monday in view of the heatwave.

IMD said heat wave conditions likely to persist over isolated to scattered pockets of northwest and central India during next 3 days and abate thereafter.

Pantnagar and many other places also remained hot in Uttarakhand with Roorkee recording 41.1 degree C.

The maximum temperature of 39.2 degree C in Dehradun was 5 degree C more than the normal. The minimum temperature also rose to 22.5 degree C in Dehradun.

Heat Wave to Severe Heat Wave conditions prevailed in isolated pockets over Himachal Pradesh, East Uttar Pradesh, few places over Punjab, Haryana, West Uttar Pradesh, Rajasthan and in isolated pockets over East Madhya Pradesh, Vidarbha and Bihar.

Severe Warm night conditions prevailed in isolated pockets over West Uttar Pradesh and warm night conditions in isolated pockets over Punjab, Haryana, East Uttar Pradesh, West Madhya Pradesh and Rajasthan.

Maximum/day temperatures were in the range of 40-45°C over most parts of the country except Western Himalayan region, Northeast India, west coast and southern parts of Peninsular India. On Saturday, the highest maximum temperature of 47.4°C was reported at BANDA (UTTAR PRADESH).
